The Once And Future Bunk House

Things are going well at what Nick and I used to refer to as the "PH" (The Possible House). During the 4 months and 3 weeks of negotiation before closing we acted cautiously as to avoid utter heartbreak. We didn't want to get too attached or be too certain.

The Forth of July 2008, surveying what could be.

July 4th will mark the first time we saw the For Sale sign, and now, almost a year later, our"PH" is our "H"... or it will be when we... you know have a floor, etc.

The B.H.

Construction on the home is on the horizon, but for now Nick and I are taking on the renovation of the Bunk House, cause it doesn't need plumbing. It doesn't need to be anything more than a rustic old little barn with the added bonus of being a place we can stay when we DO convert the old hay drier to a house. Fixing up the B.H. first also means that we'll have the opportunity to learn hands-on about laying a floor and cutting wood, etc.

Learning

After realizing that building the floor to the Bunk House wasn't going to include this little area shown below I started to get excited. Limitations can be the best thing for the imagination. Ooo that's T-shirt slogan material!

It's just right size for a wee mudroom; a few hooks, and an old bench, VOILA! But what kind of floor? Bricks? We do have quite the collection right now. Tile? Or STONE?!!! Hmmmm... The problem with most stone floors is they don't look natural. There's something that can be kind of cheap about the shine or the clean cut, but seeing this pic below really gets me going.

So I did some research and started to sift through our various piles of rocks. (Folks, this floor is really gonna be something.)

In other Bunk House news, walls have been knocked down, roofs have been propped up and my Nordano cushion fits perfectly!

Two things about this picture are destined to change: that chair is gonna be painted white (maybe) and that asphalt is gettin' DUG UP!!!

Another picture before ownership

Nick walks towards the little barn not knowing that one day it would indeed be called the "Bunk House". And it would indeed be ours.
