Down And Dirty

Well... there's good news and bad news.

Good news is we had a lovely Saturday. We were eager to dig up the rest of the asphalt inside of the "bunk house", but there was a minor prob. The first third of the floor went great, we dug until we hit the cement foundation, shoveled it up 'n out and swept.

The second section of floor we dug... and dug... and DUG. THERE AIN'T NO FOUNDATION! This isn't horrible, it just means there are more "steps". Now we have to dig up the asphalt AND about 3 or 4 inches of dirt, smooth it out and pour cement down. THEN we'll start to build the floor. (That's the bad news.)

After getting a little disheartened I decided to spend some of my energy focusing on landscaping. There's a lot of land to "scape", let me tell you. I planted some ornamental grass last week and boy is that guy dead. Then I said to myself "Why on Earth would you buy grass, when your whole property is COVERED with interesting plant life, grass included!" They're mostly weeds, but they're beautiful!

I tried researching "weeds" and all I got were pages and pages of Mary Louise Parker. Then I thought how but just Google "Weed" singular. I'm such a dope. (Dope.) I wanted to identify what kind of weeds I have and why they're so bad?! Apparently they're just stingy plants. So if you want to have a garden or a gentle patch of pansies they won't get any water or nutrients because the weeds take it all. But isn't that kind of awesome? These big bully plants, these thriving survivors. I love them. Next time I'm up there, I'll take some pics.

But for now I'll just gather kindling to fuel my fantasy fire. Currently I'm excited about paths...

That picture with plants inside of the frames, from Sunset, is very exciting to me.
